Congratulations to our Barnet dance crew for winning the Dare 2 Dance Battle of the Boroughs at The Bloomsbury Theatre! The girls were competing against youth crews from across London, and gave a fantastic perfromance to win the title!! Huge congrats to the girls, and also to Nadia Sohawon for her amazing choreography!!
// JAM FREE BARNET!

Innovation Dance were delighted to present 'Jam Free Barnet' at the Arts Depot in North Finchley, as part of their 'Jam Free' project partnership with Sadlers Wells and London Youth Dance. The performance featured local primary schools Colindale, All Saints N20, Goldbeaters and Barnet Community Classes, alongside youth troupes Candoco2, FFI, Shoreditch Youth Dance, Just Us Dance Theatre, and of course the premiere performance of 'The Wizard Of Oz - Retold' which was performed by students from secondary schools across Barnet. Congratulations to everyone for a great night, and looking forward to the Sadlers Wells show on March 15th!!

// BROMLEY WEST DANCE STARZ

We held our first Bromley West Dance Starz at Bromley College on February 14th, with fantastic performances from 11 primary and secondary schools within the borough. The show featured 200 dancers of all ages, and we had great support from all the parents and teachers - a big thank you to all involved! A shout out to the amazing dancers from The Highway, Prendergast, Balgowan, Bullers Wood, Scotts Park, Cator Park, Pickhurst and Bromley College! Well done guys!

The final Barnet Dance Starz of the year was the biggest yet, with 16 schools performing and over 250 supporters watching the dancers perform! It was the first opportunity the newly formed iD Youth group had to show their work over the term, and the group closed the show for us with their fantastic hip hop routine - a big thank you to Zoe and Dani for their choreography! A huge well done to all of the schools who performed, another great celebration of all the dance in the borough, and thank you to everyone who came along, and especially to our lovely teachers Angela, Lisa, Lauren and Heather for their hard work and great choreography!

// iD AT THE SCOOP!

At the other end of BIG DANCE week, we were delighted to bring two of our street dance groups, iD Youth from Barnet, and Scotts Park from Bromley, along to The Scoop to perform at the London Youth Dance event, which saw 80 groups perform next to City Hall over the two day event. Both of our groups performed really well, and we all had a great day watching the other youth troupes, and the professional groups as well.

// MOUNT CARMEL PERFORMS AT SADLERS WELLS

On Friday 9th July, the Year 7 hip hop troupe at Mount Carmel were chosen to perform at the Lilian Bayliss studio theatre in Sadlers Wells. The girls performed alongside dancers from Mill Hill County High, Copthall School, St James and Bishop Douglass in an evening celebrating youth dance in London. The girls performed extremely well and enjoyed dancingin such a beautiful theatre. A big well done to all the girls and a thank you to Annette for her help with all of the organisation of the evening. A lovely way to end the term!

// GRAFTON SCHOOL PERFORMS AT 'GO ISLINGTON'

Congratulations to both street dance groups who performed on the Youth stage at Go Islington at Highbury Fields, organised by London Youth Dance to celebrate the start of BIG DANCE week! One group performed a Michael Jackson - inspired routine to Thriller, whilst the second group performed to a mix of Transform Ya and Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toez!! It was a gorgeous day out in the sunshine, and a big thank you goes to all the parents and family members who came along to support, and also to Louise for her great choreography. Well done Grafton!

// iD YOUTH HIP HOP CREW

We are hugely excited to announce the formation of 'iD Youth', our Barnet based hip hop youth crew, who will begin training together after the Easter holidays. Young dancers were selected from our Barnet Dance Starz show to join an invitation only troupe, put together for performances and competitions throughout London. We will also be adding any other talented dancers that we spot over the term, so if you want to be considered, come along and join our Year 3 - 6 hip hop class at St James High School on Fridays at 4pm - 5pm with Zoe. After the amazing success of our Christmas Dance Starz, we decided to hold another one to celebrate all of the work done during the spring term by our Barnet schools. Fourteen schools came together at Whitefields Secondary School to give great performances of the pieces that they had been working on during the term. Once again the dancers performed to a packed audience, so a big thank you to all of the parents and friends for their support. Performances ranged from the wonderful 'glittery' opening by Colindale!, through to the break dancing grannies by The Orion!! A really entertaining night, so well done to all of the dancers! Also thank you to teachers Angela, Danielle and Heather for their help and their hard work.

// CONNECTING MOVES FESTIVAL AT SADLERS WELLS

A big congratulations to our schools Grafton Primary, St Andrews, Blessed Sacrament, Robert Blair, Hallfield Juniors, Duncombe, Scotts Park and The Orion, who all performed at the Connecting Moves Festival in Sadlers Wells. All of the pieces were fantastic, and the dancers loved having the opportunity to perform at such an amazing venue! Thank you to our teachers, Catriona, Louise and Leona for their help in preparing the dancers for the big day!

//'ROAR' AT SADLERS WELLS

We were very proud of Zoe's Henrietta Barnet hip hop group for being one of 9 groups chosen out of 48 applicants to perfom at Sadlers Wells at 'Roar'. The girls had only been dancing together for 8 weeks but gave an amazingly polished and strong performance, and were talent spotted on the night to appear as special guests at the Step Into Dance Barnet showcase! Well done girls!

// 'LETS DANCE' AT REDBRIDGE

Fifteen schools across Redbridge performed at the 'Lets Dance' Festival to show the results of their hard work over the term. The Festival had a competitive element, and congratulations to Barley Lane, who won the award for the best overall piece! Thanks to our teachers Lauren, Verona, Anneka, Anastasija, Sheryl, Jess and Natasha for all of their hard work, and also to Hatim for his amazing performance!!

// FRESHEN UP A FAIRYTALE - ROYAL FESTIVAL HALL

We were very proud of our hip hop team from Mount Carmel who performed their version of an updated Cinderella story at the Royal Festival Hall on the Southbank on December 19th. The girls gave a fantastic performance, and a few even had the opportunity to take part in the Matthew Bourne workshop, based on 'Swan Lake'.Congratulations to all of our dancers!

'Over 240 parents and relatives congregated in Whitefield School’s hall on December 3rd to watch nearly 200 pupils perform dance routines that they have been working on for varying lengths of time!
South and West schools have been working with coaches from Innovation Dance this term and the evening was the culmination of a term’s work.
The ages of the performers varied from KS2 to KS5 and all of the performances were excellent. Congratulations to all who took part. It was an extremely enjoyable evening!'

Innovation Dance is delighted to announce our partnership with Sport Unlimited to deliver our iD Project to secondary schools in East London, starting in September 09. The project will be supplying secondary students with high-quality urban dance training with industry professionals, leading to an end-of –term ‘crew’ performance, and including one masterclass with a specialist guest teacher.

Dance crew ‘Serenity’ performed their fusion of contemporary, hip hop and ballet at The Shaw Theatre in Camden in July, alongside acts such as Boy Blue, Impact Dance and Strike. The show was hosted by Kimberlee Jay, and was a fantastic evening of dance. Well done girls!

// EDGEWARE JUNIORS MEET LINFORD CHRISTIE

Our Edgeware Juniors street dance club performed at the Graham Park Athletic Event 2009, which was held to bring the community together to enjoy sport and to uncover new talent. The dancers not only gave a great performance, but also had the opportunity to meet the sporting legend Linford Christie!
